Want a higher score?

This estimate covers the core points only. Most applicants can lawfully add more.

There are several recognised ways to lift your points under the current skilled-migration rules — and the rules change often. We don't list them here because the right combination depends entirely on your individual profile, and getting it wrong costs time and money.

Contact our MARA registered agent and we'll review the current law and policy against your profile and propose a tailored plan to increase your points — the genuine, compliant pathways that apply specifically to you.

This calculator gives an indicative estimate only and is not an official assessment. Your real score depends on a formal skills assessment, exact dates, and current rules (which change often). Book a session with our MARA registered agent for your verified score and strategy.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about the Australia PR points calculator and the skilled migration points test.

Is the Australia PR points calculator free?

Yes. Tachnat’s Australia PR points calculator is completely free to use. It gives you an indicative core score for the subclass 189, 190 and 491 skilled visas in about two minutes, with no payment required.

How many points do I need for Australia PR from India in 2026?

The official minimum is 65 points to submit an Expression of Interest for the subclass 189, 190 or 491 skilled visas. However, 65 only enters you into the pool and does not guarantee an invitation. In 2025–2026 invitation rounds, competitive scores for the 189 have often been 80–95 or higher, and the government has proposed raising the floor to 70 from around July 2026. A realistic plan aims well above 65.

How does the points calculator work?

The calculator scores the core points most applicants earn from four factors: age (maximum 30 points, for ages 25–32), English language ability (up to 20 points for superior English), skilled work experience (overseas and Australian combined, capped at 20 points), and qualifications (up to 20 points for a doctorate). It then adds optional points such as state nomination, a skilled partner, Australian study, a professional year and a community language to estimate your total against the 65-point threshold.

Is the calculator’s score accurate?

It gives an accurate indicative estimate of your core points based on the official points test, but it is not a substitute for formal advice. Your final score is assessed at the time of invitation and depends on details like your skills assessment outcome and English test results. A MARA registered agent confirms the full picture before you lodge.

Which visa does the score apply to — 189, 190 or 491?

The core score applies to all three. The subclass 189 (Skilled Independent) needs no sponsorship but is the most competitive. The subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated) adds 5 points through state nomination. The subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional) adds 15 points but requires you to live and work in a designated regional area before transitioning to PR. The calculator lets you see how nomination changes your total.
